Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority began a four-week trial of Glydways pods at Bluewaters on Sunday, with Dubai Holding. The pods are autonomous, electric and carry four to six passengers on their own dedicated tracks.
The RTA says the system could carry more than 20,000 passengers an hour, though no basis was given for that figure. Candidate routes include National Paints Metro station to Bluewaters (2.8 km), JVC, Festival City and Business Bay.
Why it matters
It isn't a public service yet. It's four weeks of watching before anyone commits to a network: a city keeping the right to change its mind.
