Prime Minister Burnham proposes a UK-led global code of standards for ai

Britain would convene countries on "ai for good" principles, tied to the 2027 G20 in Manchester, with £1bn for regional innovation.

Speaking at the Innovation Nation Summit in Manchester, Prime Minister Andy Burnham said Britain would bring countries together to "develop a global set, a global code of standards and principles to support an ai for good approach". He linked it to the 2027 G20 in Manchester.

According to Yahoo News UK, UKRI will put £1bn over four years into regional innovation clusters.

Separately, at the Beyond The Music AI summit in Salford, Bev Craig pledged an extra £2m for skills and grassroots music venues. No final text of the proposed "Manchester Principles" on ai and the creative industries has been published.

Why it matters

It's a proposal to convene, with no text yet. Whether other countries sign up to a UK-led code is the test.
