Anthropic reportedly asks Claude users to share voice recordings for training

Text and code were one thing. Your voice is a more personal kind of data, and it now has its own consent prompt.

Anthropic has reportedly started showing Claude voice users a prompt asking them to share audio recordings and voice-chat data to improve its speech models. Users can choose "Allow" or "Not now", and there's a separate toggle in Claude's privacy settings.

According to the reports, this is separate from Anthropic's existing opt-in for using text chats and coding sessions, and the data can be switched off or deleted at any time.

No dated announcement from Anthropic was found. The details come from reporting on the in-app prompt, not from the company.

Why it matters

Voice is a more sensitive category than text: it can identify you. A frontier lab asking for it through its own consent flow is a quiet shift in the race for training data. The ask comes with the word consent attached, and that's a label worth reading carefully too.
