ElevenLabs has released two text-to-speech models:
- Eleven v4: its most expressive model, on a new architecture that reads a script with awareness of the speaker, the earlier context and how a line should land
- Eleven v4 Turbo: a low-latency version for real-time voice agents, at around 150 ms median time to first speech over WebSocket streaming
Both cover more than 90 languages. Instant voice clones now need about 10 seconds of audio. The model IDs are eleven_v4 and eleven_v4_turbo, with an API discount until 12 October.
What changed for developers
- inline audio tags can now be stacked, and the model follows them in sequence
- SSML
breaktags are switched off; pauses and delivery are now controlled with natural-language audio tags
Why it matters
This is the voice tool behind these videos, so we're watching it closely. The upgrade is small on paper, but anyone whose scripts rely on break tags will find them silently ignored.
