Anthropic released Claude Opus 5.5 on 22 September. The company says it performs at the level of Fable 5.1 on most work and costs 40% less to run than Opus 5. Those are Anthropic's own figures.
It landed the same day as Xiaomi's and MiniMax's open-weight releases, a reminder that the closed labs are cutting prices too.
