China's Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security announced a nationwide initiative to promote employment in response to ai, plus a regular mechanism for identifying new occupations.
Figures from the Xinhua report:
- new ai job postings up 789% year on year, January to July
- the core ai industry is worth more than 1.2 trillion yuan, across 6,200 firms
- 10.52 million new urban jobs in January to September, 87.7% of the annual target
Why it matters
Almost every government talks about ai and jobs in general terms. This is a named national programme, and Western ai outlets have barely covered it.
