Inworld buys Ultravox, and only its own voices get the upgrade

If you built a voice agent on a third-party voice, the official line is "nothing changes today". Which is a polite way to say: for now.

Inworld, an ai lab and inference provider led by Kylan Gibbs, has acquired Ultravox, a platform developers use to build real-time voice agents. Ultravox handles turn-taking, interruptions and voice delivery. Its team joins Inworld and keeps working on the platform. Terms weren't disclosed.

The one concrete change for customers: built-in Inworld voices on Ultravox are upgraded to Inworld's Realtime TTS-2, at no extra cost and with no code change. For voices from other providers, such as ElevenLabs or Cartesia, Inworld said only that "nothing changes today".

Why it matters

A voice-agent platform now belongs to a company that sells text-to-speech, and the only written commitment covers the voices Inworld itself sells. For teams that bring their own voice, that is a change of ownership to watch. Ultravox's standard self-serve terms allow it to be assigned to a buyer without consent, and let material changes take effect 30 days after notice.
