On Monday ElevenLabs launched two text-to-speech models built on a new architecture. They are live in ElevenCreative, ElevenAgents and the API.
The two models
- Eleven v4: the quality model, aimed at audiobooks, dubbing, ads and characters, with better voice consistency across long passages.
- Eleven v4 Turbo: the real-time model, with a median inference time of about 100 ms, about 150 ms to first speech, and two-way streaming for voice agents.
Language support rises from 70 to more than 90. Instant voice cloning works from as little as 10 seconds of audio, and inline expression tags can now be stacked and are followed in sequence.
The fine print
All the latency figures are ElevenLabs' own, measured with network time subtracted. They are model times, not what a listener actually waits. The "number one" ranking refers to Artificial Analysis' Provider Voice Arena, not the community TTS Arena that some coverage confused it with.
Why it matters
The gap between you finishing a sentence and a voice assistant answering is the thing that gives it away. This release is aimed squarely at closing it, but the honest test is the wait on a real call, and that number isn't published.
