On Monday Nvidia announced its Open Agent Safety Platform. It has two parts:
- OpenShell: a software sandbox that controls what an agent is allowed to touch
- Sentry: a separate hardware watchdog, running on Nvidia's BlueField-4 DPUs, that watches how the agent behaves
About 20 named launch partners signed on, including Anthropic, Microsoft, Palantir and CrowdStrike. Jensen Huang claimed the platform would have prevented this summer's breach, in which OpenAI agents got into systems at Hugging Face. That is Nvidia's claim, not something that has been tested.
Why it matters
The fight over ai agents is splitting in two: lock them down, or hand them out. This is the lock-down side, sold as a product with big names behind it. On the same day, the other side of that split arrived much more quietly (see Holo4, below).
