At its Apsara Conference in Hangzhou on 22 September, Alibaba's chip unit T-Head revealed the Zhenwu V900, a chip for training and running ai that Alibaba calls China's most powerful.
The specs
- about three times the performance of the previous M890
- 216GB of high-bandwidth memory
- 1.2TB/s chip-to-chip bandwidth
- clusters of up to 500,000 V900s, enough for models of 5 to 10 trillion parameters
Alibaba also set out an ambition for a 10-trillion-parameter model (Qwen 5), committed to more than 20GW of data-centre capacity worldwide by 2032, and put mass production of the chip in the first quarter of 2027. Chief executive Eddie Wu fronted the announcement, and shares rose about 3 to 5% in Hong Kong.
Why it matters
It landed the same day as Xiaomi's model, and several analysts read the two as a Chinese full-stack moment: home-grown chips alongside open frontier weights. The top keeps racing.
